K9 Training Equipment

K9 is a homophone (sounding the same) of “canine”, a word that generally refers to any member of the dog family, Canidae. The term K9 was initially used by the police and military, and their dog units were (and still are) known as K9 units. In this context the terms K9 dog training, K9 obedience training and K9 training academy would all refer to dog training that specializes in training dogs for police work.

When doing K9 training for the police and military, one of the aspects that the K9 training school specializes in is attack training. This training is based on the premise that the dog is ordered to attack a person on command. As you can well image, the person being attacked would be worse for the wear if the did not have some protection. There is a huge range of protective gear available for K9 training services. These range from full body bite suits of various designs to arm protection, leg protection, groin protection and finally head and face protection. The designs of these devices are different in the sense that with some it is obvious that protective gear is being worn, while other protection equipment is hidden under normal clothing.

When the police and military K9 units are working, the dogs are normally transported in specially equipped police cars. Equipment available for this includes crates and storage units complete with interior lights and fans – everything to make the trip for man’s best friend safe and comfortable. Last, but not least, is a whole range of collars and leashes. One might question why specialized collars and leashes would be required for K9 protection training until one remembers that you are trying to teach and control an aggressive dog that is attacking a human. You had better believe that the collars and leashes have to be ultra strong in order to handle the brute force and raw energy that is typical of K9 training school.
